INDONESIA DEVELOPMENT NETWORK:
a Consilience Platform
Indonesia’s diversity, both culturally and geographically, has provided a fertile learning lab for development approache. As Indonesia continues to grow as a middle income country, the development challenges it faces are increasingly complex, and require collaboration and cross-sectoral linkages, to provide new and or/improved solutions.

The Indonesia Development Network (IDN) provides a collaboration platform for Indonesian development professionals and experts to be profiled and to contribute existing knowledge to address issues and to respond to emerging opportunities.

To support collaboration, IDN has been established for Indonesian development practitioners to profile their knowledge and experience, and provides a single reference point for government, private sector and international development agencies to tap Indonesia’s knowledge and capacity.

“The principle of convergence of evidence from independent sources that could lead to strong conclusions”.

Biologist E.O. Wilson in his book Consilience, the Unity of Knowledge (1998), describes it as: “the synthesis of knowledge from different specialised fields of human endeavour” traversing “scales of space, time and complexity”. With the advances in information technology, and emphasis around creating synergies, or convergences and “tipping points” (Gladwell, 2000), Wilson’s argument holds true that there is a “shift away from the search for new fundamental laws and toward new kinds of synthesis… in order to understand complex systems” (Wilson, 1998).
Nurturing POSITIVE and COLLABORATIVE Environment
The Indonesia Development Network (IDN) was initiated by Principia Learning Lab and Bina Darma Foundation. Both organisations have established track records in change leadership.

By interpreting “development” essentially as a change process, both organisations agree that critical
within any development or change is the capacity, vision and motivation of leaders driving the change.

Since establishment in 2009, Principia Learning Lab has developed a range of methodologies and competencies for institutional and individual change leadership, primarily in the private sector.

Bina Darma, has trained more than 10,000 individuals in leadership since its founding in 1979,
and owns its own training center ini Salatiga, Central Java.

The combined capacity and networks of the two organisations
provide a strong starting point from which IDN has emerged.
What We Are Doing
Collaboration between experts and professionals in IDN is currently focused on Change Leadership, Knowledge Management and Development Learning in:

- Implementation of the Village Law (Law no. 8/2014)

- Development of Small and Medium Enterprises

- Implementation of the Regional Government Law (Law no. 23/2014)

- Food Security and Renewable Energy
